Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani sustained a fractured thoracic vertebrae and other injuries following a car accident in Manchester, New Hampshire, late Saturday evening. The incident occurred on Interstate 93 when the vehicle Giuliani was a passenger in was struck from behind, his head of security, Michael Ragusa, confirmed. Giuliani, 81, was transported to a nearby trauma center for treatment.
The collision, which involved a Ford Bronco driven by Giuliani's spokesperson Ted Goodman and a Honda HR-V driven by 19-year-old Lauren Kemp, took place just before 10 p.m. on August 30, 2025. Both vehicles were heavily damaged and veered into the median. New Hampshire State Police, who were investigating a separate incident nearby, witnessed the crash and quickly rendered aid.
According to Ragusa, Giuliani suffered "multiple lacerations and contusions, as well as injuries to his left arm and lower leg" in addition to the spinal fracture. Despite the severity of his injuries, Ragusa stated that Giuliani is "in good spirits and recovering tremendously" and is expected to be released from the hospital within a few days. Ted Goodman and Lauren Kemp also sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The accident occurred shortly after Giuliani had stopped to assist a woman who had flagged him down, identifying herself as a victim of domestic violence. Ragusa said Giuliani called 911 and remained with the woman until authorities arrived, emphasizing that the subsequent car crash was "entirely unrelated" and "not a targeted attack." No charges have been filed as the New Hampshire State Police continue their investigation.
Giuliani's son, Andrew Giuliani, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, tweeting, "Your prayers mean the world." This incident marks another challenging period for the former mayor, who has recently faced significant legal and financial difficulties, including a substantial defamation judgment and disbarment in New York and Washington, D.C.
