Donald Trump recently reminded guests of the July 13, 2024, assassination attempt during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, an event that resulted in one fatality and several injuries. The incident saw then-presumptive Republican nominee Trump wounded in his right ear by a bullet fired by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks. The attack, which occurred during a pivotal moment in the 2024 presidential campaign, continues to be a subject of reflection for the former president.

The shooting unfolded as Trump addressed supporters at the Butler Farm Show Grounds. Crooks, positioned on a nearby rooftop approximately 400 feet from the stage, fired eight rounds from an AR-15-style rifle. Amidst the chaos, Secret Service agents swiftly moved to shield Trump, who was seen with blood on his face but defiantly raised his fist, reportedly shouting, "Fight! Fight! Fight!"

Tragically, Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old firefighter, was killed while shielding his family, and two other rally attendees were critically injured. Crooks was subsequently shot and killed by a Secret Service counter-sniper. The incident prompted widespread condemnation and raised significant questions about the security protocols for presidential candidates.

The Secret Service faced intense scrutiny following the attack, with a Senate report released a year later highlighting "inexcusable" failures in planning and response. Then-director Kimberly Cheatle resigned in the aftermath, and reforms were initiated to enhance protective measures, including the use of bulletproof glass at Trump's outdoor rallies. Six Secret Service employees received disciplinary actions ranging from suspensions to non-operational assignments.

Trump himself has frequently referenced the event, attributing his survival to divine intervention and a large immigration chart he was pointing to at the moment of the first shot, which he believes caused him to turn his head and avoid a fatal blow. As reported by Visegrád 24 on social media, Trump continues to recount the details of the "failed assassination attempt on his life during the campaign," underscoring its lasting impact on his public narrative and the political landscape. The FBI's investigation into Crooks' motive remains ongoing.
