Polish Border Guards Engage Schoolchildren in Recruitment Drive Amidst Heightened Border Tensions

Near the Polish-Belarusian border, Polish border guards recently visited an elementary school, engaging with children and showcasing equipment used in border security operations. The visit included a demonstration of batons and body armor, tools utilized by the guards when confronting individuals attempting to cross the border wall. According to a tweet by Visegrád 24, the border guards expressed their hope that these children would consider following in their footsteps, implying a long-term recruitment or public relations effort.

This outreach occurs against a backdrop of an ongoing and often volatile migration crisis at the Polish-Belarusian frontier. Since 2021, Belarus has been accused by the European Union and Poland of instrumentalizing migrants, facilitating their travel to the border as a form of "hybrid warfare" to destabilize the EU. Polish authorities constructed a 5.5-meter high border wall along 186 kilometers of the border in response to these pressures.

The equipment displayed, such as batons and body armor, is routinely used in operations to prevent illegal crossings.
