Swedish authorities are set to charge an 18-year-old man on Thursday for allegedly planning a terrorist act in Stockholm on behalf of the Islamic State (ISIS) group. The Swedish Prosecution Authority announced its intention to press charges, following the man's arrest on February 11, after which he has remained in custody. A press conference is scheduled for Thursday to provide further details on the case.

The 18-year-old is suspected of "preparation for serious crimes under the act on flammable and explosive goods and training for terrorism," according to Deputy Chief Prosecutor Henrik Olin. Olin stated, "We believe the purpose of the preparations was to induce serious fear in the population, in the name of the Islamic State. The criminal act could have seriously harmed Sweden.

Further investigations reveal that the 18-year-old will also face charges alongside a 17-year-old boy for attempted murder in Germany in August 2024. Both individuals are suspected of "participation in a terrorist organisation," indicating a broader network or coordinated activities. The planning for the alleged Stockholm plot reportedly took place between August 2024 and February 2025.

While specific details of the planned attack in Stockholm have not been publicly disclosed, the charges suggest an intent to use explosive or flammable materials. The involvement of a minor and the alleged connection to ISIS highlight ongoing concerns regarding youth radicalization and the persistent threat of Islamist extremism in Europe. The upcoming press conference is expected to shed more light on the nature of the plot and the evidence gathered by Swedish authorities.
