The Jacksonville Jaguars intend to play their 2027 NFL season home games in Orlando at Camping World Stadium, relocating temporarily while their EverBank Stadium undergoes a significant $1.4 billion renovation. This decision, first reported by Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel, awaits final approval from NFL owners, which is largely considered a formality. The move will see the team utilize a recently upgraded facility designed to host major sporting events.
The Jaguars' EverBank Stadium is slated for a comprehensive renovation project, anticipated to be completed by August 2028. This extensive overhaul will necessitate the team's temporary relocation for the 2027 season, though the Jaguars will play the 2026 season in Jacksonville with a reduced stadium capacity. The "Stadium of the Future" project aims to modernize the venue with features like a transparent protective shell and wider concourses.
Orlando's Camping World Stadium was chosen over Gainesville's Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, which was also under consideration. Camping World Stadium is undergoing its own $400 million renovation, expected to conclude by early 2027, making it ready for NFL play. In contrast, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium has its own renovation plans scheduled to begin in April 2027, creating a logistical conflict.
Orlando City Commissioner Shan Rose confirmed the Jaguars' intentions, highlighting a collaborative effort with Orange County Government and Florida Citrus Sports to bring the team to the city. Florida Citrus Sports CEO Steve Hogan stated, "Our community has consistently demonstrated its ability to successfully host major events, and this opportunity would mark an important new chapter for our city as a global sports and entertainment destination." The NFL approval process requires a 75 percent vote from team owners.
During their temporary relocation, the Jaguars may also continue their tradition of playing international games, potentially hosting up to three games in London during the 2027 season. This temporary move ensures the franchise can complete its stadium upgrade while maintaining a professional playing environment, with a long-term commitment to Jacksonville following the renovation.
