Syracuse, NY – Syracuse football head coach Fran Brown made his team run sprints on the field immediately following their 27-20 victory over the University of Connecticut. The unusual post-win conditioning session stemmed from Brown's profound dissatisfaction with the team's on-field effort and discipline, despite securing the win.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Brown articulated his frustration, stating he was "pissed" by a lack of hustle.

"Guys not running to get lined up, guys not running to the ball," Brown said, adding, "I just want to celebrate the win with the people, but I’m so pissed. I’m mad as heck right now."

This action aligns with Brown's established coaching philosophy, centered on the "DART" acronym (Detailed, Accountable, Relentless, Tough). He emphasized his belief in coaching rather than allowing complacency to set in.

"I was taught through a lot of the coaches that coached me, you either coach it or allow it, so I feel that I’m allowing it," he explained.

Brown consistently stresses the importance of developing his players beyond the football field, aiming for them to be "excellent men" who will become "great fathers and husbands." He views such rigorous standards as crucial for their overall development.

"There’s just some things that I gotta do. I just want to hold them to the standard of who they are... and not allowing them to underachieve at anything," he stated.

Under Brown's leadership, Syracuse football has seen a resurgence, achieving a 10-win season in 2024, his first year at the helm. His demanding approach, which includes concepts like "Winners Get Washed" after losses, underscores his commitment to continuous improvement regardless of game outcomes. The UConn game was Syracuse's first home game of the 2025 season, following their season opener against Tennessee.
