Austin, Texas – Base Power, a rapidly growing energy technology company, has announced the successful closure of a $200 million Series B funding round. The significant investment, co-led by Addition, Andreessen Horowitz, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Valor Equity Partners, is earmarked to accelerate the company's national expansion, reinforce the U.S. power grid, and establish domestic manufacturing capabilities for its distributed energy solutions. Justin Lopas, Co-Founder and COO of Base Power, underscored the company's ambitious vision in a recent tweet, stating, "> Come join us building the foundation of American power."

Founded in 2023 by Justin Lopas and Zach Dell, Base Power aims to modernize the electricity grid by deploying large-scale home battery systems. The company operates as a retail electricity provider in Texas, offering homeowners affordable backup power solutions with minimal upfront costs. These individual battery units are aggregated into a virtual power plant, enabling Base Power to participate in wholesale energy markets by optimizing energy storage and discharge.

The substantial Series B funding will primarily fuel Base Power's rapid growth and enable its expansion beyond Texas, where it has already seen considerable traction. A key strategic initiative is the construction of the company's first factory in Texas, which will enhance its domestic manufacturing capabilities for battery systems. This move aligns with a broader national push to strengthen critical infrastructure and reshore manufacturing.

Texas, with its independent grid and susceptibility to outages, has served as a crucial proving ground for Base Power's model. The company has quickly scaled its operations, powering thousands of homes across the Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and Austin metropolitan areas, and has deployed over 10 MWh of storage in recent months. Partnerships with major homebuilders like Lennar and utility cooperatives such as Bandera Electric have further accelerated its market penetration.

The leadership team, comprising engineers and operators from prominent technology firms including SpaceX, Tesla, and Anduril, brings deep expertise to the complex energy sector. Their collective experience is central to Base Power's mission to deliver reliable and affordable power, addressing the increasing strain on existing grids due to surging electricity demand from electrification and AI data centers.
