Las Vegas, NV – The Boring Company, founded by Elon Musk, officially opened its new Encore station for the Vegas Loop on April 8, 2025. This development marks the third major resort property to connect to the rapidly expanding underground transportation system, which aims to revolutionize mobility across the city. Located above ground adjacent to the Encore Las Vegas' North Valet area, the station is designed to provide swift and efficient transit between the resort and the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC).
The launch of the Encore station follows the successful integration of Resorts World in 2022 and Westgate in January 2025 into the Vegas Loop network. These additions are crucial steps in The Boring Company's ambitious vision to establish a comprehensive 68-mile subterranean transportation system featuring 104 stations. The system utilizes all-electric Tesla vehicles to shuttle passengers through dedicated tunnels, significantly reducing travel times compared to traditional surface routes.
The Vegas Loop project has already transported over 3 million passengers and is ultimately designed to serve up to 90,000 passengers per hour. While rides within the LVCC campus remain complimentary for convention attendees, travel to and from resort stations like Encore requires a ticket, typically priced at $4 for a single ride or $6.25 for a round trip. The Boring Company funds the system's infrastructure, with participating resorts covering the costs of their individual stations.
Officials view the expansion as a vital component of modernizing urban transportation and alleviating traffic congestion in Las Vegas. Steve Hill, President and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, highlighted the convenience, stating the new station makes it "an easy two-minute ride" for attendees staying at the Encore. The Boring Company continues its network extension, with future plans including connections to Harry Reid International Airport, Allegiant Stadium, and downtown Las Vegas.
Despite its rapid growth, the project has encountered some challenges, including OSHA fines totaling $112,000 in February 2024 for safety violations, which The Boring Company is currently contesting. Discussions also persist regarding the system's actual passenger throughput in comparison to its projected capacity. Nevertheless, the continuous development of the Vegas Loop underscores a significant transformation in the city's transportation landscape, as noted by observers like "Whole Mars Catalog" who simply tweeted about the "New Encore Boring Loop station."
