San Francisco – Browser Use, an innovative platform focused on enabling AI agents to interact seamlessly with the web, recently announced the successful close of a $17 million seed funding round. The investment, led by Felicis' Astasia Myers with participation from notable investors including Paul Graham, A Capital, and Nexus Venture Partners, underscores growing confidence in the company's unique approach to web automation. The funding, which had not been previously reported, positions Browser Use for accelerated development in the burgeoning field of AI-driven web interaction.

Founded in 2024 by Magnus Müller and Gregor Žunič, Browser Use aims to solve the challenges AI agents face in navigating dynamic and complex websites. Unlike many existing solutions that rely on vision-based systems, Browser Use converts website interfaces into structured, text-like formats that large language models (LLMs) can process deterministically. This method promises more reliable, efficient, and cost-effective automation, addressing issues like website changes breaking scripts and the need for human-like interaction to bypass bot detection.

The company emerged from ETH Zurich’s Student Project House accelerator, with founders Müller and Žunič quickly developing a prototype that gained significant traction. Browser Use has since become a leading open-source project in the web agent space, boasting over 50,000 stars on GitHub and a community of more than 15,000 active developers. Its technology is already being utilized by over 20 companies from the current Y Combinator winter batch, highlighting its foundational role in the AI agent ecosystem.

Co-founder Gregor Žunič recently shared an informal observation on social media, highlighting an individual named Soham within their community. Žunič tweeted, > "Here are some gold moments from @browser_use Soham Slack thread👀 (he applied before it was cool btw) Based on the chats 1. The guy must have unlimited OpenAI credits 2. He knows a lot of internal company secrets." This lighthearted comment suggests the company's deep engagement with AI technologies and the advanced capabilities of its early adopters or internal team members.

Browser Use's vision is to simplify web automation, allowing users to "tell your computer what to do, and it gets it done." The new funding will enable the company to further build out its infrastructure, enhance agent memory, improve planning capabilities, and reduce token consumption, ultimately making web AI agents more robust and widely applicable for tasks such as data scraping, form filling, and complex multi-site workflows.
