San Francisco, CA – Alex Ruber, co-founder and CEO of Encore, a consumer mobile AI company, announced a significant improvement in user engagement for their flagship application, Candle. The app, dubbed "the Duolingo for relationships," has seen its rating conversion rate more than double following the implementation of a new rating modal within its onboarding flow.
Ruber shared the positive development on social media, stating, "day 130 of building Candle, the Duolingo for relationships. we added a rating modal to our onboarding flow and it’s now more than 2x’d our rating conversion rate. we’ve let that experiment run for another 30 days and it’s still looking strong." This indicates a sustained positive impact on user feedback.
Candle, launched by Encore (a Y Combinator Fall 2024 batch company), aims to help couples foster deeper connections through daily, minute-long interactive rituals. The app's unique approach focuses on enhancing emotional intimacy through activities like games, photo prompts, and audio reflections. Encore, co-founded by Ruber and Parth Chopra, specializes in creating design-first consumer AI products that promote positive habits.
Despite the recent success, the development team is actively addressing user experience challenges. Ruber also noted, "one of the things we’re working on now is improving the app experience on poor/limited network connections, we’ve gotten a few rough reviews about that. stay tuned for improvements!" This highlights the ongoing commitment to refining the app based on user feedback, particularly concerning connectivity issues common in mobile application development.
The company continues to invite users to download the beta version of the app to experience its features firsthand. Alex Ruber, an alumnus of Apple and NASA JPL, brings a strong engineering background to the venture, while co-founder Parth Chopra, formerly of Twitter and Asana, contributes expertise in search and ranking systems.
