San Francisco – Grammarly, the prominent AI assistant for communication and productivity, has announced its acquisition of Superhuman, the AI-native email application. This strategic move aims to significantly expand Grammarly's artificial intelligence-powered productivity suite, integrating Superhuman's advanced email capabilities. Superhuman was last valued at $825 million in 2021.
Jude Gomila, an early investor in Superhuman, publicly congratulated the team on the acquisition. "I'd like to congratulate him and the team on getting acquired today," Gomila stated in a tweet, reflecting on his decision to back Superhuman nine years ago to "reinvent email." He also noted his long-standing relationship with Superhuman CEO Rahul Vohra, which began 23 years ago at a university entrepreneurs club.
The acquisition underscores Grammarly's vision to build a comprehensive "AI-native productivity suite." Email is identified as a critical communication surface, with Grammarly's AI assistant already helping users revise over 50 million emails weekly. Superhuman's expertise in streamlining email workflows, including AI-powered scheduling, intelligent reply generation, and smart categorization, is expected to enhance Grammarly's offerings.
Rahul Vohra, Superhuman's CEO, along with over 100 Superhuman employees, will join Grammarly as part of the deal. Vohra stated that joining forces with Grammarly will provide "significantly greater resources" to invest further in AI and develop new tools, including calendar, tasks, and collaboration features. This integration aims to create a new way of working where AI agents collaborate across various communication tools.
This acquisition follows Grammarly's recent securing of $1 billion in funding from General Catalyst in May, providing substantial capital for its expansion. It also builds on Grammarly's previous acquisition of Coda in late 2024, which saw Coda co-founder Shishir Mehrotra assume the role of Grammarly's CEO. These moves collectively position Grammarly as a multi-product company focused on delivering sophisticated AI-driven productivity solutions across the professional landscape.
