Optimism and Flashbots Target 200ms Transaction Confirmations Across Superchain
Optimism has announced a strategic partnership with Flashbots, aiming to introduce fast, verifiable sequencing to the Superchain ecosystem. The collaboration, revealed by Optimism on social media, seeks to deliver significantly faster transaction confirmations, thereby enhancing the overall user experience. The Superchain, a network of Layer 2 solutions built on the OP Stack, currently accounts for over 60% of all Ethereum Layer 2 transaction activity as of August 2025. This extensive ecosystem includes prominent chains such as Base, Unichain, World Chain, Ink, and Soneium. The integration of Flashbots' technology is set to further bolster the performance and customizability of the OP Stack, offering a competitive edge to builders.
Flashbots, recognized for its leadership in sequencing research and development, is the creator of essential tools like MEV-Boost, which processes over 90% of Ethereum's blocks. Through this partnership, Flashbots will bring its battle-tested sequencing features to the Superchain. Key innovations include Flashblocks, which has already enabled 200-millisecond confirmation times on chains like Base and Unichain, with a wider rollout to OP Mainnet and other Superchain networks expected in the coming months.
The collaboration will empower OP Stack builders with advanced capabilities such as fully customizable block building, responsible Maximal Extractable Value (MEV) capture, and enhanced spam resistance. These features allow for tailored latency, improved execution fairness, and greater scalability, ensuring that chains can innovate on user experience and monetize their blockspace effectively. Sam McIngvale, Head of Product at OP Labs, emphasized the strategic importance, stating, “With Flashbots as a core technology partner, we’re accelerating the roadmap for fast, cheap, and customizable sequencing across the OP Stack.”
