Medellín, Colombia – Somos Internet, a rapidly expanding Colombian internet provider, recently concluded its "Lightfinders" event, a strategic gathering held within the framework of Colombia Tech Week 2025. The event served as a platform for discussing the future of hard-tech in Latin America, following the company's significant US$18 million Series A funding round aimed at expanding its fiber optic network across Colombia. The company expressed gratitude to participants and collaborators for contributing to a "space for connection" and dialogue.
The "Lightfinders" event, described by Somos Internet in a tweet as "> "un espacio de conexión, para hablar del futuro y del ahora. La unión de espacios, mundos y personas,"" brought together executives, investors, and policymakers. Andrés Acevedo hosted the conversation, while speakers including Packy McCormick, Daniel Vásquez, and Somos Internet Founder and CEO Forrest Heath shared their insights and experiences on the intersection of art and technology, and the broader hard-tech landscape.
This strategic event comes on the heels of Somos Internet's successful Series A funding, which saw investments of US$7.2 million from Union Square Ventures (USV) and US$7.5 million from Ribbit Capital. This capital infusion is earmarked for the aggressive expansion of the company's fiber internet infrastructure, aiming to reach 65,000 active users and achieve US$11.5 million in annual recurring revenue by the close of 2025.
Forrest Heath, CEO of Somos Internet, emphasized the company's vision for the event, stating its intention to "> "encender una cultura de hard-tech que trascienda Somos y beneficie a toda la región."" The company, which has grown from a Medellín garage to serving 50,000 homes and offices in three years, seeks not only market share but also to elevate infrastructure standards and export talent.
The "Lightfinders" event received support from key regional entities, including Colombia Tech Week, Ruta N, and K50 Ventures, underscoring a collaborative effort to foster innovation and community within the technology sector. Somos Internet acknowledged all creative teams and participants who helped build and bring the space to life, reinforcing its commitment to community engagement and strategic partnerships.
